Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Blue Ox adjustable 2 inch ball mount for a 2-1/2 inch hitch with the 2-5/16 diameter clamshell ball adapter and a 12,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this powder coated steel adjustable ball mount has the 2 inch hitch ball that'll let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank right here, this is what'll slide into your 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver, and it secures to your hitch using this included 5/8 inch diameter hitch pin and clip. Now the 2 inch hitch ball provides the connection point for your trailer coupler, we did mention this comes with this 2-5/16 standard clamshell adapter. And basically what this is, it's a stainless steel adapter that if you open it up, put it over the 2 inch ball, push it closed, the magnets lock together, and that'll give you a 2-5/16 size towing option.
So if you have a trailer with a coupler that's a 2-5/16, you put that adapter on, now you can tow that one. And again, it just easily installs by clamping around the 2 inch ball. We mentioned the adapter is stainless steel, the hitch ball is stainless steel, they are corrosion resistant. And the two different size hitch balls will let you tow trailers with different coupler sizes. This ball mount will let you tow up to 12,000 pounds using either one, the 2 inch ball or the 2-5/16 adapter.
This is an adjustable ball mount, you can see the holes going down here. These adjustable heights will let you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle. Basically, you'll slide the ball platform up or down the channel, and then secure it in place with these dual pins and lynch clips. Now the incremental height adjustment, you can see the holes all along here, if we measure center to center from one hole to the next, it's one inch. So it gives you a one inch incremental height adjustment.
Now it will give you a drop and a rise, so if you use it in this position and with the ball mount all the way at the bottom, like it is now, that's gonna give you a maximum drop of seven inches, and that's measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. Now if you did put the hitch in the rise position, which means if you flipped it over to where this was going up, and then put the ball in the highest position, it would get you a maximum rise of seven inches. And just to show you how you could move that ball platform, you just pop off your clips right here, slide out your pins, there's one pin, there's the other pin. And with both those pins out, now you can see that'll release the ball mount and you can slide it into whatever height you need. You can also slide it off if you need be, and then you can slide it right back on and put it in whatever position.
Once you find the position you need, let's say if we do that position, slide your pins all the way back through, there's two of 'em. Take your clip, go ahead and put your lynch clips right in here, that'll secure them so they don't slide out. And once you get those all installed, now you're all ready to go, and just like that you get it at whatever height you need it at. This is a heavy-duty steel construction that uses a black powder coat finish on the ball mount shank and the mount itself, well it does resist corrosion. Application, we mentioned, fits 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receivers. Gross towing weight capacity of 12,000 pounds using either the 2 inch ball or the clamshell adapter. And the last thing I wanna give you is the measurement from the center, there's two hitch pin holes you notice here, and that's to adjust for your application, depending how your hitch is situated you can use either hitch pin hole to put it into place, but I'm gonna measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball and using the first hitch pin hole. If I go from the center to the center of the ball it's gonna be 8-1/4 inches. And if we go from the furthest one back, center of that hole, to the center of the ball is 9-1/2 inches. Well that should do it for the review on the Blue Ox adjustable 2 inch ball mount for a 2-1/2 inch hitch with the 2-5/16 diameter clamshell ball adapter and a 12,000 pound gross tow weight capacity..
Great product, used with varying trailers with different hitch heights. The square tubing that slips into the receiver could be a couple of inches longer to better position a mud flap holder, especialy for stock Duramax exhaust. It does work OK.
Absolutely. One our best investments for camping
Nicely built and sharp looking. Haven’t used yet sure it tows just fine. 3 stars as Blue Ox for this price should have used locking pins both on receiver portion and adjustable ball mount. Now I have to buy the locking pins as extras and I’ve been seeing competitors that do provide the appropriate pins at comparable prices.
Great drop hitch. Clamshell is a great idea for quick interchangeability. Cotter pins to adjust the ball up and down that come with hitch are not so great. The cotter pin fell out and the whole second pin was missing before I noticed. Easily replaced with better, and no issues since.
Needed an adjustable heavy duty hitch for several different trailers I use, this one was worth the extra money, easy to adjust. Had bent cheaper hitches in the past. And would replace with the 2” version if I ever go back to a half ton truck
Great hitch. Super heavy duty and quickly adaptable from 2" to 2-5/16" with the clamshell.
My kid has used it an works as should.
I love the product. Love Etrailer. Unfortunately, the product came with damage. There was not enough damage for me to return it, but it was dropped. The paint was chipped, and the drop pins didn't seem to operate correctly.

I'm sorry to see that your hitch has received some scratches on it due to shipping. This does tend to happen and when it does, we recommend using a Rust-oleum type paint to cover up any scratches and prevent corrosion in the future during use. I have a link below for your reference. I have also sent this information over to our Customer Service Department for them to get into contact with you.

Great ball mount that is fully adjustable in 1" increments.
It's a very well made hitch. Highly recommend this hitch
Item arrived in a timely manner and looks great. I haven’t hooked up a trailer but the adjustability and the clamshell adapter look very promising.
